People in Derbyshire are being reminded there is still time to make a nomination for a blue plaque.

The county council scheme celebrates important people and places with local heroes, famous people and buildings of historic importance being recognised.

People nominated must have been dead for at least 20 years and the property owners must agree to the nomination.

The closing date is 2 May, the shortlist will be out in June and six winners will be announced in September.

Nominations so far include Will Hay, a much loved comedian of the 1930s from Belper, Sir Henry Royce of Rolls Royce fame, who lived in Quarndon, and Sir Joseph Whitworth, an engineer and industrialist with connections to Darley Dale.

People recently honoured in this way in Derbyshire include Richard Arkwright Junior in Bakewell, Lady Baden Powell in Chesterfield, Jedidiah Buxton in Elmton, Arthur Lowe in Hayfield, Joseph Paxton in Chatsworth Park and George Stephenson in Chesterfield.

The scheme was launched in the county in 2009.
