Order to tackle anti-social behaviour in Ilkeston

A dispersal order has been introduced in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, to help tackle anti-social behaviour.

Section 30 orders give police the power to move on groups causing harassment or disorder. If anyone returns within 24 hours they face arrest.

The order, backed by Erewash Borough Council, covers an area including Chalons Way, Rutland Recreation Ground and Victoria Park.

It will run from May until November, but if successful, may be extended.

Ilkeston Safer Neighbourhood Team officer Pc Steve Harper said: "A Section 30 order is a useful tool in the fight against nuisance behaviour.

"Teenagers often congregate in certain areas of the town and they can be rowdy or anti-social, which some residents find intimidating.

"Those who are thought to be under 16 and unsupervised can be taken home after 9pm and served with a written notice warning them about their behaviour."

Letters about the plans will be sent to families who have children at schools in the area.
