Misfits actress Lauren Socha 'shocked' at Bafta triumph

Derby actress Lauren Socha says she was shocked at being named best supporting actress at the TV Baftas.

The 20-year-old, who lives in Littleover and went to Saint Benedict School, won for her portrayal of Kelly in Channel 4's comedy-drama Misfits.

She beat Jessie Wallace, Lynda Baron and Gillian Anderson to the prize, a year after being nominated for her part in the Channel 4 drama The Unloved.

Ms Socha said she had not got her hopes up this time around.

She said: "I didn't see it coming. I was just honoured to be nominated again.

"When he said my name I was completely shocked."

The actress thanked her mother after being handed the award at the ceremony in London.

Ms Socha trained at the Television Workshop in Nottingham before her breakthrough performance as a 16-year-old girl in a care home in The Unloved.

She then beat thousands of other actresses to the role of Kelly in Misfits, which tells the story of a group of youngsters who develop special powers after being caught in an electrical storm.

Filming on a third series has already begun, after which Ms Socha plans to work on a film.

Her older brother, Michael Socha, is also an actor and appeared in the film This Is England and the BBC Three series Being Human.
