A man has appeared at Nottingham Crown Court charged with the murder of Thorntons worker Jia Ashton.

David Simmonds, 21, of Derby Road in Heanor, is accused of killing the 25-year-old economics graduate.

He appeared via video link and spoke only to confirm his name and that he could hear clearly. He was remanded to reappear on 30 August.

Mrs Ashton was found dead from head injuries in woods in Somercotes, Derbyshire, on 13 March.
