A new £150,000 skate park has been officially opened in a Derbyshire town later.

The ceremony, which will include skateboarding and rollerblading demonstrations, took place at West Park in Long Eaton.

The "plaza-style" concrete skate park was funded through £145,000 from Erewash Borough Council and £5,000 from the Erewash Youth Forum.

The park has been designed for all levels of skateboarders.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council's lead member for culture and leisure, said: "Compared to other sports, skateboarding has a growing number of participants and the new sports facility at West Park, Long Eaton, will provide increased choice for our young people."

The Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Kevin Miller, cut a ribbon to officially open the skate park.
