A charity has bought a Victorian building in Derbyshire from the local district council for £1.
The Grand Pavilion in Matlock Bath was taken over by a local community group three years ago.
The Derbyshire Dales District Council voted to sell the building to the Matlock Bath Pavilion Group for the nominal sum.
The pavilion was a music and entertainment venue but in recent years has been only used occasionally.
The group hopes to renovate and restore the building, if the millions of pounds required can be raised.
It has said it plans to install a 400-seat theatre while retaining the mining museum, community centre and playgroup, that currently operates there.
Until 2008, the pavilion was also used as a nightclub.
