Derby railway station £2.2m facelift completed

A £2.2m project to modernise the entrance and improve facilities at Derby's railway station has been completed.
Transport Secretary and Derbyshire Dales MP Patrick McLoughlin will officially open the forecourt later.
Derby City Council had wanted the station to become the main regional hub for HS2.
But Mr McLoughlin announced in January that the region's HS2 station would be in the Nottinghamshire suburb of Toton.
Leader of the council Paul Bayliss said the scheme would generate far more for the East Midlands' economy if it stopped in Derby.
Mr McLoughlin said the cost of reconfiguring Derby station for HS2 would have been substantial and it would have been incredibly disruptive.
