Derbyshire flood warnings issued

Some properties in Swadlincote were hit by flash flooding

Two flood warnings have been issued for Derbyshire after heavy rain fell in the county overnight.

Some roads were left impassable and drivers were warned to take care after 85mm (3in) of rain fell in Derbyshire on Saturday night.

The flood warnings, which mean flooding is expected, are for the River Dove and Hilton Brook.

Flood alerts for the Lower Dove Brooks and the Upper Dove have also been put in place, meaning flooding is possible.

Amber alert

Leaving a comment on Radio Derby's Facebook page, Debbie Hickling wrote: "Coming out of Ashbourne and I was met with 2ft of floods on the A52.

"I don't know how I managed to get home as I couldn't see the road occasionally.

"Not seen rain like that in a long while."

Flash flooding also hit Swadlincote, Hilton and Eggington.

A Met Office amber alert for heavy rain remains in place for the East Midlands.

The designation advises people to "be prepared" for flash flooding and travel disruption.
