Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said nobody was hurt in the fire

An investigation into a fire at a row of terraced houses has found it was accidental, started by a garden brazier placed too close to a garage.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the blaze on Blackmore Road, Normanton, just after 17:00 BST on Saturday.

Six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to the scene and several homes were evacuated.

It said damage was caused to four properties but no-one was injured.

The investigation by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and Derbyshire Police found the brazier was placed too close to a garage that had a wooden door and roof.

The fire service said the wind conditions caused the fire to jump from the brazier to the garage, which contained a vehicle with fuel in its tank.

It said the wind caused the fire to spread to the roof of the first property.

The blaze then travelled through the roof space of the row of terrace houses, affecting four in total.

Station manager Barclay Masterson said: "This is a devastating fire, causing damage to several homes and a caravan, but thankfully no-one was injured."
