A teenager who completed her A-levels despite having terminal cancer has been awarded "outstanding" results following her death.

Margaret Adcock - known as Maggie - died in June at the age of 18 before finding out her results.

John Port Spencer Academy in Derbyshire has announced that she achieved two A*s and an A.

Ms Adcock's parents, who received the results last week, said while they were "very proud" it was also "bittersweet".

"Maggie worked so hard," her mother, Lyn Adcock, said.

"Her determination and commitment are an inspiration to us all.

"She never ceases to amaze us. We knew she could do it, no doubt about it."

Angharad Swift, an assistant principal at Ms Adcock's school, said she "continues to inspire us all".

"We continue to be so very proud of Margaret Adcock, who tragically died in June," Mrs Swift said.

"She has been awarded outstanding A-Level results, which is a testament to the bright, ambitious, courageous student she was."

Ms Adcock, who was from Hilton in Derbyshire, studied English language, geography and psychology at A-level and had planned to go to Durham University to study geography.

She was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in May 2022.

She had chemotherapy but in January was told she had only weeks or months to live, after the cancer spread to her brain.

Surprise 18th for Derbyshire girl given weeks to live

After Ms Adcock was told her cancer was terminal, her friends and teachers threw a spring ball for her with only about two weeks to plan it, as this was on her list of wishes.

She was also surprised with a party for her 18th birthday in May.

The school now plans to celebrate her life in a variety of ways.

The new sixth form block will have a Maggie's Bench outside it, and the school is hoping to have a wild flower garden in her memory.

Students will also be awarded annually with the Margaret Adcock Award for determination, ambition and resilience in geography.
