A man in his 60s has died after falling ill while walking with friends in the Peak District in Derbyshire.

The Edale Mountain Rescue Team said it was called to near the top of Golden Clough and Ringing Roger on Friday.

Multiple emergency teams attended but the man went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Derbyshire Police said the man's death was not being treated as suspicious, adding a file was being prepared for the coroner.

The Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance attended, and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter was requested to help due to high winds, the rescue team said.

Two doctors had to be dropped off by the air ambulance, before it landed in Edale on standby, because of the windy conditions.

The Rescue 963 helicopter from Caernarfon, North Wales, was also sent to the scene.

A spokesperson for the rescue team thanked members of the public who assisted and offered condolences to the man's family.
