Four people have been charged in connection with the death of a woman after a fall at a care home.

The three women and man were staff at The New Lodge Nursing Home, in Derby, at the time of the death of Shirley Froggett in October 2018, police said.

Mrs Froggett, 84, died in hospital following the fall, the force added.

On 26 October, the four appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court, where they were released on bail, with the case sent to Derby Crown Court.

An inquest into the death of Mrs Froggett, held in 2022, heard from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that she was found on the floor of the lounge of the home by a member of staff, after falling from a wheelchair.

She had a fractured thigh bone (femur) and bruising to her temple, face, left arm and her left leg, a CQC spokesperson added.

She was later taken to the Royal Derby Hospital, where she was treated for her fracture.

While she was there, Mrs Froggett contracted broncho-pneumonia and later died of bi-lateral broncho-pneumonia, due to a femoral fracture.

At an inquest into her death, a coroner said Mrs Froggett died as a result of an accident that was contributed to by neglect.

New Lodge Nursing Care Limited was fined £30,000 for failing to provide safe care and treatment to a resident, resulting in her being exposed to a significant risk of avoidable harm.

It was also ordered to pay a £170 victim surcharge and a contribution to prosecution costs of £7,500 to the CQC.

Derbyshire Police said Alison Linda Foster, of St John's Road, Stoke on Trent; Nakeeba Akhtar, of St Chad's Road, Stoke on Trent; and Prabina Thapa, Bartley Wilson Way, Cardiff; had all been charged with perverting the course of justice and wilful neglect.

Amar Muneer, of Blackpool Street, Burton-upon-Trent, has been charged with wilful neglect.

The four will appear at Derby Crown Court at a later date.
