Peak District: Fire rips through double-decker bus
- Published
A woman who witnessed a fire ravage a double-decker bus has said she is "relieved" that no-one was hurt.
Suzanne Beattie said she saw the tyres and fuel tank explode on Castlegate Lane, near Monsal Dale, Derbyshire.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said they were called at 17:05 GMT on Tuesday and deployed crews from Bakewell and Bradwell.
Ms Beattie says she believes the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
While on her way back home from a day out with a friend, Ms Beattie said cars started flashing their lights at them as they came out of the village of Wardlow.
"People were warning us there was something ahead... we got there and I couldn't believe how fast it was spreading through the bus... it engulfed it all," she told the BBC.
"We then heard the tyres go bang and then we heard the fuel tank explode - it shot a great load of fuel across the side of the road... the smoke was unbelievable."
"We saw the fire engines come and they did an amazing job... I'm so glad and relieved there were no children on it and no-one was hurt.
"It was quite scary... I couldn't believe the speed of it and it reduced the bus to nothing."
A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters from Bakewell and Bradwell were called to a large vehicle fire on Castlegate Lane, Monsal Dale, at 17:05 on Tuesday.
"Upon arrival, crews discovered a double decker bus well alight. They used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
"All persons were accounted for."
