A comedy duo have given a Derbyshire makeover to a festive classic tipped for the Christmas number one spot.

Mark Page and Craig Webb have reversioned The Pogues' Fairytale of New York as Fairytale of Matlock, external.

Their parody video has been watched more than 80,000 times on social media since being released on 1 December.

Mr Page said they also wanted their version to be a tribute to The Pogues' frontman Shane MacGowan, who died on 30 November.

Having met while working as actors in London five years ago, Reel Production have created a strong local following by posting comedy videos and parody songs online.

The 28-year-old, from Cromford, said he hoped their newest clip - filmed at multiple Matlock locations - would help to promote the Peak District.

"We like to make videos for the local community and videos that are relatable for people of the local area," he said.

"I don't see a lot of these kind of videos that really show you the towns of the Peak District - it's all the very picturesque side of it.

"We like to support the local businesses that are in those little towns and villages."

The original track - a duet with Kirsty MacColl - has become a festive favourite since its release in 1987 and has been heavily backed in the Christmas number one betting following MacGowan's death.

Asked if he hoped his version could challenge at the top of the charts, Mr Webb, 23, from Walton-on-Thames, London, said: "For it to have about 80,000 views - it's like most of the population of Matlock itself - so that in itself is an achievement and that's all we can ask for really."
