Samuel Wilson and two others were hit by the vehicle in Market Place, Ilkeston, at about 02:10 GMT on Saturday.
The 26-year-old died at the scene despite attempts to save him.
Zac Newman, 27, of The Crescent, Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, has also been charged with wounding with intent and attempted grievous bodily harm.
Mr Newman appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Wearing a grey jumper and bottoms and flanked by two dock officers, he spoke only to confirm his identity and was not asked to enter any pleas.
He was remanded in custody to appear before Derby Crown Court on Tuesday.
The two other injured men have both since been released from hospital.
A tribute to Mr Wilson, from Long Eaton in Derbyshire - posted on social media by football club Curzon AFC - said: "It's with a very heavy heart that we have to share the news that our kind, loving, funny, talented number 12 and last season's player of the season Sam Wilson, tragically lost his life early hours this morning.
"We've not just lost a player, we've lost a friend, a brother, a son, a boyfriend and all round one of life's good guys, his impact on all of our lives will never be forgotten!
"Sam we love you and we will all miss you. Until we meet again keep looking down on us with that infectious smile. Love you mate from all at Curzon AFC."
Mr Wilson's sister has said there are "no words" to describe the family's loss on a JustGiving page, which has raised more than £9,000, the PA news agency said.
"Our hearts will forever be broken, and there are no words to describe the huge hole it has left in all of our hearts," she said.
