Watch: Huge plumes of smoke visible after building fire

Efforts to find the cause of a fire at a historic 19th Century building in Derby have begun.

Emergency services went to the Grade II listed property, located on the corner of Melbourne Street and Osmaston Road, just after 13:10 GMT on Friday.

Five fire engines attended to tackle the blaze and then left the scene by 20:30.

After inspecting the scene on Saturday morning, a joint police and fire service investigation got under way.

A large plume of smoke was visible over the southern part of the city and much of the building's roof was destroyed.

BBC Radio Derby reporter Heidi Booth, who was at the scene at the time, said the listed building was the former nursing school in the city.
