Swadlincote: Holocaust Memorial Day exhibition opens in town

An exhibition to mark Holocaust Memorial Day has opened in Derbyshire.

The Fragility of Freedom, at Swadlincote's South Derbyshire Visitor Centre, features posters and information boards, plus images and first-hand accounts from survivors.

It aims to offers an insight into the "restriction of freedom and self-identity" experienced by Jewish communities during World War Two.

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on 27 January.

The Holocaust was the attempt by the Nazis and their collaborators to murder all the Jews in Europe, with more than six million men, women and children murdered between 1941 and 1945.

The free exhibition, organised by South Derbyshire District Council, is open to visitors until 30 January.

Councillor Sean Bambrick, chair of the council, will also be revealing a plaque dedicated to the day next to a newly-planted pear tree at Rosliston Forestry Centre.
