Four people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash closed a city centre road.

Crews and police were called to St Alkmund's Way, Derby, at about 10:30 GMT on Tuesday.

A police officer at the scene said the road would stay shut for a few hours.

Two adults and two children have been taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, while two other people have been taken to hospital in Derby with minor injuries.

Sgt Adam Shipley said the crash involved a car, van and 4x4.

Derbyshire Police has asked for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire County Council said one of the vehicles involved was driven by one of its employees, however no further information was available.
