About 45 "bee-friendly" bus stops are to be placed around Derby

More "bee-friendly" bus stops will be installed to try to improve the environment in Derby city centre.

The city council has been working on a project to create stops with plant-covered "living roofs" as a habitat for the insects.

Temporary bus stops have been put in place on Corporation Street while the work is under way.

The new stops should be in place by May as part of a deal with contractor Clear Channel.

The firm has been working on providing 90 new bus stops for the city since April 2022 - half of which will be so-called Bee Bus Stops, writes the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

Derby City Council cabinet member for transport Carmel Swan said: "They have been specially-designed in partnership with expert ecologists to support native biodiversity, help create healthier local communities, and bring greenery back into urban areas."
