A Derby County fan has had the club's stadium tattooed on his back along with a depiction of his son, sparking other football fans to follow his idea.

It took a total of 18 hours, and Lee Bray said the pain was horrific at times but "100% worth it".

He had wanted a tattoo that combined two of his loves, and fortunately his son is a Rams fan too.

The artist who did the tattoo said he had now been contacted by other fans who wanted similar tattoos.

Mr Bray said the response had been really positive.

"I posted it on some social media pages and Derby groups and a few people have said they are not really into tattoos, but they think it's amazing," he said.

"There were some areas that were horrific.

"It's like a really, really sharp scratching pain and continuous, and it was three day sessions which were six hours each, so 18 hours all in."

The tattoo was done by Jack Shutt, from All Ink Tattoo Studio in Sheffield.

"Since I posted it [on social media] I've had quite a few different enquiries from people wanting grounds on their back, and three of them are booked in," he said.

"I didn't expect it to be as popular as it was, to be honest."

Mr Shutt has tattooed sporting icons on people's bodies before, including Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, motorcycle racer Guy Martin, and footballer Lionel Messi.

He has also inked footballers themselves, including Blackburn Rovers player Kyle McFadzean and Ipswich Town's Massimo Luongo.

Mr Bray's tattoo was posted on BBC Radio Derby's Facebook page, external, prompting people to share images of their own Derby County tattoos.

Tom Akers has a tattoo of the stadium on his leg, along with a depiction of him and his two sons.

"I had it done basically because I'm a Derby County fan and have been since I was young," he said.

"Eleven years ago we welcomed my first son, who now plays football for Heanor Town on Saturdays and Mansfield Town on Sundays as a number nine, hence the nine on his back on the tattoo.

"His dream is to play for Derby County."

Brenda Fox posted a photo of her daughter Chloe's Derby County tattoo, which is on her leg.

"She had the tattoo because she has supported Derby County all her life and constantly follows them home and away," said Ms Fox. "They're a massive part of her life."
