The first 143 homes of a huge housing estate in a Derbyshire village have been approved.

Plans for 650 properties, a care home, local centre and open space on land south of Worksop Road, Mastin Moor, were approved in principle in 2022.

Chesterfield Borough Council has now given the first phase of the housing development the green light.

Developer Harron Homes said it planned to create a "safe and welcoming new neighbourhood".

Documents submitted to the council showed the first homes will be a range of two, three, four and five-bed properties.

The developer said 5% of the homes would be affordable.

Commenting in the application, the developer said: "The dwellings will be constructed to a high specification with a mix of traditional and modern materials, together with contemporary design elements akin to traditional form.

"The design delivers a safe and attractive environment, a desirable place that will stand the test of time and that people will be proud of and want to inhabit for many years to come."
