A suspected spill from a chemical tank in Derbyshire has prompted a clean-up operation by several agencies.

A leak surrounding a mobile storage tank on an industrial estate off Amber Drive in Langley Mill was seen at about 10:00 BST on Wednesday.

The Environment Agency said the liquid is believed to be a chemical used in plastic manufacturing.

Officials said the substance can irritate skin if touched, but the spill has been contained.

The fire service, police, county council and Severn Trent Water also attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: "We are responding to a chemical spill at Bailey Brook Industrial Estate in Derbyshire.

"The spilled substance is suspected to be a chemical used in plastic manufacturing.

"This is an irritant so it's important that members of the public don't touch it.

"We have confirmed the material is contained and are working with the local authority to clean up the site.

"Our investigation is continuing, and we are working with the police to identify the source of the waste."

A fire service spokesman said: "Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to a chemical spill on an industrial estate off Amber Drive in Langley Mill at 10.20 hours today.

"We have been working with colleagues from the Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water, Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire Constabulary to manage the spill and mitigate any risk to the environment and currently remain on scene."
