Plans for a major redevelopment of a Rolls-Royce site have been given the go-ahead.

Derby City Council approved "absolute immense" plans to overhaul and expand the site in Raynesway.

New manufacturing spaces and a multi-storey car park will be built as part of the work, designed to support the firm's nuclear submarine contracts.

The company said the development could help create more than 1,000 new jobs in the city.

Several buildings will be demolished to make way for the new development.

The plans also include another multi-storey car park and surface parking in St Modwen Park for Rolls-Royce staff and a new footbridge.

The application was approved despite concerns that the plans could have a knock-on impact on traffic around Pride Park at busy times, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The site's redevelopment will allow the firm to fulfil Royal Navy contracts awarded in 2019 worth £235m and Ministry of Defence contracts to supply the Australian Department of Defence awards in 2022 worth £2bn.
