The name of a new square, which is part of a town redevelopment, has been revealed.

The Clay Cross Town Board said the name Baileys Square was picked based on a map from 1898, which showed a square of the same name in the same area.

It is part of the £24.1m Clay Cross Town Deal, which also includes a leisure centre.

North East Derbyshire District Council said construction on the square was due to start later this year.

Plans were approved for the Town Deal's Town Centre Regeneration, external in November.

Baileys Square will become a space to be used for markets, seasonal events and as a public forum.

Lee Barnes, Clay Cross Town Board chairman, said he was "extremely eager to unveil Baileys Square to the public".

He added: "It will be a place to host some amazing events, make some fantastic memories for those attending and will become a household name to residents and visitors of Clay Cross as a substantial leisure space at the heart of Clay Cross."

There will also be units for food companies, leisure operators, cafes, and restaurants on the route from Broadleys to the public square.
