A goose died at a Derby park after an attack by a pet dog.

On Wednesday, a Canada goose was killed by a dog at Allestree Park.

Friends of Allestree Park say the incident has been reported to Derby City Council, and called for any witnesses to get in contact.

The council says it is aware of the incident. A spokesman added that incidents of irresponsible dog owners should also be reported to Derbyshire Police.

In addition, the Friends of Allestree Park say on Thursday a dog that was off its lead entered the water of Allestree Park Lake and attacked a swan.

A bystander had to come to the bird's rescue to pull the dog away.

In the commotion, a duck fled its nest, and at least one egg was lost.

A Derby City Council spokesperson added "The council requires that dog owners keep their dogs under reasonable control when in our parks, using leads where appropriate.

"If residents are concerned about a regular pattern of someone exercising dogs that are out of control, they should report this to the police and also advise the council's parks team via parksadmin@derby.gov.uk.

"When reporting an incident or regular behaviour, please include as much detail as possible to help colleagues to investigate."

Derbyshire Police says it has not had either incident reported.
