Former Plymouth Airport runway makes way for homes

The airport is home to Air Southwest, which was sold last month

Work has started on hundreds of homes on a disused part of a Devon airport.

Each of the 375 houses on the old second runway at Plymouth Airport will have extra sound-proofing because of the nearby planes.

Torquay-based Cavanna Homes, which bought the land in 2009 for £3m, says it will take eight years to complete.

The airport is the base for Air Southwest, which was sold to Eastern Airways by the airport's owner Sutton Harbour Holdings in September.
