Dartmoor Zoo 3D film treat for hospital children

The hospital said the 3D film was a great success with children, parents and staff

Young patients at a Devon hospital have been taken on a "virtual" trip to the zoo.

Children at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth were shown a 3D film made by Dartmoor Zoological Park.

The film included lions and tigers feeding, as well as meerkats, tarantulas and other creepy-crawlies.

Zoo owner Benjamin Mee said the animals put "truly magical" smiles on the children's faces. A hospital spokesman said the visit was a great success.

'Touching' distance

"The festive season always makes you appreciate what you have," Mr Mee said.

"At Dartmoor Zoo we are lucky to be able to see lions, tigers, a jaguar, meerkats and much more every single day.

"As the children in Derriford Hospital can't make it to the zoo, we wanted to take Dartmoor Zoo to them."

The children were given 3D glasses to watch the film.

"3D really does show the animals in all their glory - you almost feel you can reach out and touch them," Mr Mee added.
