French firm to operate Exeter waste incinerator

A French firm will operate a waste-to-energy incinerator near Exeter for five years, Devon County Council has said.

TIRU will run the plant, which is to be built on the Marsh Barton Trading Estate, on behalf of waste company Viridor.

Viridor is scheduled to take over the operation after five years, the council added.

The plant is expected to cost £45m to build and should be operational by summer 2014.

It will be built on the site of a former incinerator and is expected to burn about 60,000 tonnes of waste a year.
