Imitation gun accused found hanged in Exeter prison

A Plymouth man accused of pointing an imitation handgun at armed police has been found hanging in his cell in Exeter prison, the Prison Service said.

Jason Rose, 24, who was on remand charged with possession of an imitation firearm, was discovered on Tuesday morning.

He was taken to hospital but pronounced dead later, the service said.

A Prison Service spokesman said the Prisons Ombudsman would conduct an investigation.

Mr Rose, of Mount Gould, was accused of pointing the imitation firearm at armed officers who were called to Freedom Fields park in the Lipson area of Plymouth on 17 June.

The Prison Service said: "HMP Exeter prisoner Jason Rose was found hanging in his cell at 10am on Tuesday 2 August.

"Staff and paramedics attended, and Mr Rose was taken to outside hospital, but was pronounced dead at 11am.

"As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
