The palm tree logo used to promote Torbay as a holiday destination has been redesigned.

The area - Torquay, Paignton and Brixham - is known as the English Riviera because of its beaches and mild climate.

Now the English Riviera Tourism Company (ERTC) has produced a "patriotic" logo for 2012 in the union jack colours.

It has also launched a new tourism website to promote the area as "the best of British".

The ERTC said the aim of the site was to show the region, which is a UNESCO recognised global geopark, as a "must-visit" destination next year - when London will be hosting the Olympic Games.

Carolyn Custerson, ERTC chief executive, said: "The English Riviera really is an exceptional place to visit and 2012 is a great year to let the world know much more about South Devon's beautiful bay."

The ERTC said it had also set up a training course for the hospitality industry to ensure its workers were fully trained in the "art of the welcome" by the end of January.
