Work to restart tungsten mining on Dartmoor has received a £3m investment.

The money, raised on the stock market in Australia by Wolf Minerals, takes the amount confirmed for the project at Hemerdon to nearly £80m.

Mining firm Wolf, which is seeking £110m for the project, said it was now in the "final stages" of getting the remaining funding.

A new link road is expected to be finished in July and tenders have been issued to build a processing plant.

Wolf hopes to begin mining the mineral at Hemerdon near Plymouth in 2014.

Tungsten is used in metal-working, construction and in the manufacture of electrical equipment and light bulbs.

It was discovered at Hemerdon in 1867 and mining was carried out between 1919 and 1920 and again from 1934 to 1944.
