River dredging material to shore up Sidmouth cliffs
- Published
The bases of cliffs in east Devon are to be temporarily protected by aggregate dredged from a river.
The move, using material already collected from the River Sid, would give short-term protection from tidal erosion, East Devon Council said.
The work also involves the Environment Agency and is due to start next year.
Several landslips have occurred around Pennington Point area over recent weeks, closing sections of the coastal footpath.
However, the council said they had been as a result of erosion from heavy rain and not because of wave erosion.
