Eye services to move to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth

The infirmary is no longer considered suitable for the services

Eye treatments provided by a Plymouth infirmary which is more than 100 years old will be transferred to a hospital by the end of January.

Ophthalmology treatment provided at the Royal Eye Infirmary will be moved to the city's Derriford Hospital.

The first operations are scheduled for 30 January, a spokesperson from the city's NHS trust said.

The spokesperson said the existing building in the Mutley area of the city was no longer suitable.

Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust first announced its decision to move from the infirmary in 2005.

The trust added that the building was no longer suitable for the "ever-expanding and developing service".
