A collection of historical documents is being donated to Guernsey's Island Archive by the family of a prominent local historian.

Hugh Lenfestey died in February last year after a short illness, aged 77.

He dedicated many years to preserving medieval records and established the Island Archive in 1986.

His collection includes an index of Guernsey place names, a map of all the known fiefs and a list of property transactions from the 1400s.

Mr Lenfestey's family said they would donate his collection to the archive later in March.
