Exmouth seafront £10m revamp proposed

A multi-million pound project to change the face of Exmouth seafront has been put forward by East Devon District Council (EDDC).
The £10m Queen's Drive Leisure Zone could include a watersport centre, a large indoor and outdoor recreation area, shops, and a public square.
The council has submitted the planning application following a public consultation.
The plan will go before East Devon's planners in December or early 2014.
It also includes a new two-storey café, possible restaurant and a hotel or other holiday accommodation.
If it goes ahead the scheme would also see the current road being re-realigned away from the seafront, allowing "easier access to the beach and sea from the various attractions", the council said.
Councillor Andrew Moulding, in charge of regeneration at the council, said: "This is an exciting project.
"It goes right to the heart of the ambitions for Exmouth in the years ahead: new attractions, a boost to the economy and fresh appeal to those who live here, as well as those who visit."
The council said because of the scheme's size and complexity, including the need to examine environmental impact, the application is not likely to be considered by planning officials until December.
