Torbay residents are being offered free practical energy advice and support to help them cut bills and stay warm this winter.

Energy Saving Torbay claims to have already helped more than 200 local households save an average of £719 per year on their energy bills.

The scheme is run by the non-profit organisation, ECOE, which holds regular drop-in advice clinics across Torbay.

Support includes energy tariff checks, and advice with discounts and benefits.

Residents who have a household income of under £31,000 or those in receipt of benefits, can also sign up for a free home visit from a trained home energy adviser.

Councillor Chris Lewis, cabinet member for place services and economic growth for Torbay Council, said: ''Everyone should be able to heat their homes and stay warm this winter but rising costs mean this is a challenge for many people.

"Energy Saving Torbay is offering practical support to households facing fuel poverty, helping them to save hundreds of pounds on their energy bills and allowing them to heat their homes and stay healthy."

The project has received £75,000 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

All Torbay residents who are worried about or struggling with their energy bills are invited to attend the drop-in sessions at:

  • Brixham Library, first Friday of every month, 10:00 -12:00 GMT

  • Paignton Library, second Tuesday every month, 10:00 -12:00 GMT

  • Age UK Paignton, fortnightly on Thursdays, 10:00 -12:30 GMT

  • Torbay Community Café & Help Hub, last Tuesday of every month, 10:00 -12:00 GMT

  • Riviera Life Church, Torquay, second Thursday every month, 11:00 - 13:00 GMT.
