New year celebrations got even better for four Devon brothers as they completed a challenge to row across the Atlantic, raising money for charity

In February archaeologists were stunned by the discovery of woolly mammoth remains uncovered at the Sherford new town development near Plymouth

North Devon's Max Woosey raised £750,000 for charity and set a world record in March for camping out in a tent every night for three years

Plymouth City Council cut down 110 trees in the city centre in the early hours of 15 March sparking outrage among some residents

In June the Appledore lifeboat rescued three people blown out to sea on a giant inflatable duck at Westward Ho! beach

Plans to double the size of Wistman's Wood on Dartmoor by 2040 were announced by the Duchy of Cornwall in July who called on the help of an army of acorn-collecting volunteers

September saw flash flooding hit parts of Devon including Harberton, where villagers rallied to help those worst hit

A hosepipe ban, which lasted months, across Cornwall and parts of Devon was lifted on 25 September

In October football legend Jack Leslie's England cap was presented to his club, Plymouth Argyle, 100 years after he was dropped from the national team because of his skin colour

The weather was making the news again towards the end of the year as Storm Ciarán hit the region - washing this car into the sea at Sidmouth

It was a December to remember for 202 Royal Navy officer cadets at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, as the Prince of Wales presided over their passing-out parade
