The owner of the smaller dog also sustained injuries to her hand in the attack on Cowick Street, police said.

Police said the owner of the offending dogs has since been released on bail and one of his dogs has been seized.

In a post on social media, Exeter Police said: "We, and the smaller dog's owner, would like to pass our sincere thanks to the kind members of the public who assisted in safely getting the two dogs off the injured dog.
