Police urge care in Devon and Cornwall after serious collisions

Motorists are being urged to take care on the roads after a number of serious collisions.
​Devon and Cornwall Police said between Sunday 7 January and Wednesday 11 January officers attended three incidents involving pedestrians.
The force said one person lost their life, and two suffered life-changing injuries.
Excessive speed, and not wearing a seatbelt were cited as some of the main causes for serious injuries or deaths.
'Tragic loss'
Ch Insp Simon Jenkinson, of the roads policing team at Devon and Cornwall Police, said one incident resulted in "a tragic loss of life".
He said: "As you can imagine, [it] has been devastating for the family and friends of the person involved.
"These people are being supported by specialist officers and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."
He added: "When you are driving, please approach junctions and pedestrian crossings with caution and take extra care to make sure that nobody is crossing the road.
"Make sure you leave your mobile phone alone, always wear a seatbelt and never drink or take drugs and drive."
Devon and Cornwall Police also encouraged cyclists and pedestrians to wear bright or reflective clothing during darker hours.
