A man has been rescued from a fishing boat after it began to sink off the coast of Plymouth.

HM Coastguard said it was alerted to a sinking vessel just after 22:00 GMT on Friday, five miles (8km) out to sea.

The one-man crew, who was uninjured, was rescued by a nearby fishing boat, with the Plymouth Coastguard Rescue Team sent to support.

The boat later sank and it not yet known why it got into difficulty, the coastguard added.

Peter Boulter, from Plymouth Coastguard, said: "Another fishing vessel was near enough on the scene already."
