Essential work to rebuild part of a road in Paignton is due to take up to 12 weeks, highways bosses have said.

Reconstruction and resurfacing of part of Goodrington Road, beginning on Monday, is being carried out because it is "badly worn", Torbay Council said.

Residents in affected sections, due to be closed 24 hours a day, would not be able to drive to their properties and would need to park elsewhere, it said.

The works were being carried out at the "quietest time of the year", it added.

'Least impact'

Highway bosses said the works "cannot wait any longer" and were being carried out in two phases, with sections being closed to vehicles between Davies Avenue and Grange Road at the Dartmouth Road end.

They added that the first phase would be between Palm Tree View and Grange Road and would take up to seven weeks.

Phase two would be between the entrance to the Beverley Bay Holiday Park and Palm Tree View and would take up to five weeks.

The project will see a depth of just under 20in (50cm) of the carriageway being dug out and waste removed, followed by road rebuilding and surfacing.

Diversion routes would be in place while the work took place and would be clearly signed, the council said.

It added: "The project has been planned for the quietest time of the year to have the least impact on the holiday parks and they will have full access."
