A seaside town is to get a new children's play area thanks to money from developers.

The £87,000 play area near the crazy golf course in Ilfracombe, Devon, has been paid for using Section 106 money.

Section 106 funding is given to provide facilities to a community following a development in the area.

North Devon Council said the play area would be suitable for children up to 12 years of age and work would begin on 12 February.

Leader of North Devon Council Mr Ian Roome said the authority wanted to make the area an "even more attractive and family-friendly destination".

He added: "I'm really pleased to see the town benefitting from significant Section 106 funding with a play area that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike."

The play area will have pirate ship apparatus to reflect the town's coastal location and the design and materials will be in keeping with its Victorian heritage.
