Children's Alliance is offering other projects grant money

An organisation from Devon is offering grants to other groups after being given charity status.

Children's Alliance, based in Clyst St Mary near Exeter, is the charitable arm of Water Babies which offers swimming lessons to babies and toddlers.

It was set up in 2019 to help give children access to water activities including swimming lessons.

The organisation is now offering £60,000 in grants to projects linked to water and swimming across the UK.

Paul Thompson, founder of Water Babies and chair of trustees at Children's Alliance, said it was great to be given charity status towards the end of last year.

He said: "Children are at the heart of Water Babies and Children's Alliance formalises our charitable work and provides an action plan of how to give back to families and communities, helping to provide better starts and brighter futures for children."

Since it was formed, the charity has helped 477 children by providing special educational needs swimming lessons, surfing sessions, specialist swimwear and repairs to sensory pool facilities.
