Council tax rise for Teignbridge residents
- Published
Households in Teignbridge will pay an extra £5.70 on their annual council tax bill, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) has said.
The plan to increase the charge by the government-recommended 2.99% will help to fund local services.
The Teignbridge executive committee heard 76% of people who responded to a public consultation were in favour of the increase.
Councillor Richard Keeling said it was "what our community is asking for".
Core priorities
The district council's share of the current council tax in Teignbridge is £190.71 per year for an average band D property.
The total bill is £2,279.30 per property when other authority charges are added.
Teignbridge Council keeps just over 8% of the total, with Devon County Council getting 72%, 12% going to the police, 4% to the fire service and 4% for local towns and parishes.
Teignbridge Council has almost completed its budget-setting process for the year.
Mr Keeling said the council's core priorities for the year ahead would be housing, climate change and jobs.
