A beach was cordoned off after a set of live handgun bullets were found washed up on the shore.
Bideford Coastguard Rescue Team said a tin containing five 9mm bullets was discovered on Instow beach in North Devon, leading to a 999 call.
The beach was closed to the public on Saturday while the ammunition was examined and removed, the team said.
They added staff from the Royal Navy removed the bullets for "safe disposal" before the cordon was lifted.
A Facebook post from Bideford CRT said: "A huge shout out to the first informant who did the right thing by immediately dialled 999 and asked for the coastguard."
