People should not go to a Devon nature reserve until Friday due to floods and forecast heavy rain, a council says.

East Devon District Council said the Seaton Wetlands were experiencing "a lot of heavy flooding" and that parts of the site were "inaccessible", including some bird hides.

It also said Stafford Brook, also on Seaton Road, had overtopped and water poured into the nature reserve.

Officials said people should not enter water or look for alternative ways in.

A spokesperson for the council said: "As the name suggests, Seaton Wetlands is prone to flooding especially following heavy rainfall which has been the case this winter.

"Importantly, we ask visitors not to enter flood water or attempt to find an alternative route, due to the risk of becoming stuck, slipping or tripping."
