The leaflet clarified what can and cannot be recycled

Plymouth City Council has issued an information leaflet due to people putting recycling in the wrong bins.

The council has launched a new campaign to help residents across the city to recycle correctly.

The authority said it wanted to offer more support to residents who clearly "want to recycle".

The council has been posting leaflets through doors with information that clarifies what can and cannot be recycled.

In addition, the council said residents would start to see information stickers appear on their bins.

Councillor Tom Briars-Delve said Plymouth had one of the easiest recycling systems in the country

Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate Change, Councillor Tom Briars-Delve, said he was pleased to launch the campaign.

"We know that our residents want to recycle - it's evident from the sheer tonnage we get from green bins," he said.

Mr Briars-Delve said wrong items in bins leads to contamination and sometimes means they ditch the whole load of what would otherwise be perfectly good, recyclable materials.

He explained how Plymouth has one bin for everything and that is the way he wants to keep it.

He said: "We just need to make sure we're putting the right stuff in the right bin and hopefully this campaign will help that."
