Construction of new sea defences at a Devon seaside town is due to start in 2025, say council officials.

The Check House sea wall at Seaton is due to be repaired and rock armour used to reinforce 1,312ft (400m) of cliff at Seaton Hole Beach.

The work was to protect 41 homes and businesses, said East Devon District Council (EDDC).

It is spending £250,000 on the project, along with more than £500,000 from the Environment Agency.

Devon County Council and Seaton Town Council are also supporting the scheme.

'More susceptible'

Coastal defence specialists were to be invited to tender for the works this spring, with the aim to start construction in summer 2025, said EDDC.

Councillor Geoff Jung, portfolio holder for coast, country, and environment, said Seaton was "becoming more and more susceptible to coastal change due to our changing climate".

He said: "More storms, higher rainfall, are clearly having a serious effect on our beaches and cliffs.

"This section from Seaton Hole beach to the Check House is critical to protect a number of properties."
