Demolition work to repair Exmouth sea wall begins

Demolition work to repair Exmouth's crumbling sea wall has started, East Devon District Council (EDDC) says.
It comes after cracks appeared in the wall in front of Sideshore, which is believed to be around 100 years old, last August.
EDDC said the repair work, which includes demolition of the wall and installation of steel sheets, was expected to finish during the summer.
EDDC said Teignmouth Maritime Services Ltd was undertaking the construction.
The first section of work will replace 90m (295ft) of failed wall with a vertical wall, reported the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
That phase has been costed at £1.5m.
The second phase, which has been pushed back to September at the earliest, will tackle 115m (377ft) of "at-risk but still intact"' wall towards Coastwatch House - minus the slipway.
That has been estimated to cost about £1.8m.
Cladding the steel pipes was estimated to cost just under £1m, bringing the total amount to about £4.3m, officials said.
