NHS 111 offering local mental health support in Plymouth
- Published
A single phone number has been opened for people seeking urgent support in a mental health crisis.
Residents in Plymouth who need support have been asked to call NHS 111 and select the mental health option.
The first response service for Plymouth is provided by Livewell Southwest, however the phone number can be used anywhere across England and Wales.
Any calls will be answered by a trained call handler, who will listen to concerns and offer the support needed.
It is a 24/7 line of call handlers and mental health professionals.
'It can save lives'
Trainee advanced clinical practitioner, Jason, said: "It is a free space, with no judgement, led by you and what the crisis means for you.
"We talk to you about what might be going on in your life, what you may want out of your life and try to work out what that picture looks like for you, where you want to be and how we get you there."
Patricia, a mental health crisis telecoach at Livewell Southwest, said: "I would always advise people to reach out for help.
"I know the first step can be difficult to pick up the phone and call, but it can save lives."
